Whenever I wear a classic khaki trench coat and dark sunglasses I feel like I’m dressing up as a detective…if only I had bionic gadgets hidden in my trench like Inspector Gadget! But in all seriousness my friends, we all need a trench in our wardrobe this spring. It’s a must, not just for rainy days, but as a spring fashion staple. I’ve been coveting this timeless trench from Ann Taylor since I shared their Spring 2014 A-List last month and I’m so happy I picked it up!

A trench coat like this can be the perfect topper for both casual and dressed up spring looks. Whether you wear it open or closed, it’s a timeless and versatile classic that elevates any look.
It’s funny because I’ve purchased trench coats in different colours and prints before, but I’ve never owned a classic khaki trench. When I saw this coat at Ann Taylor, I knew it was the one. Crisp, clean lines, double-breasted, contrast buttons, stand collar, long sleeves, button tabs, self tie belt, storm flaps and back vent. All the usual suspects, one perfect trench!
I styled my new trench with my favourite J Brand skinnies and two more items from the Ann Taylor Spring 2014 A-List – a textured sweater and brilliant booties!
I love the subtle python print on this perforated sweater; it’s a versatile and neutral piece for my spring wardrobe and it breathes well under my trench coat. I rolled my skinny jeans to really show off these fabulous laser cut leather peeptoe shooties – they have a comfortable wrapped platform and dip slightly in the front to create the illusion of longer legs.
For my accessories, I layered a couple of gold necklaces and stacked my bracelets with a menswear watch and a cocktail ring. My studded red leather pouch clutch was the perfect finishing touch for a pop of colour in this neutral look – with matching lips of course!
